Dining in London

London is a cornerstone of British history, a political and financial powerhouse for all of Northern Europe, and a must-see destination for all travelers to the British isles. Besides being a place with endless cultural experiences to take in, London is also a very fine town for those interested in fine dining.

Simpson's in the Strand, located unsurprisingly at 100 Strand, serves upscale traditional British fare in a gorgeous Victorian dining hall replete with chandeliers and a massive fireplace. Reservations are highly suggested.

If you feel homesick for a little American comfort food however, head on down to Byrons, found at 97 Wardour Street. They serve everything from some of the best burgers in London to mac and cheese to a great Caesar salad in a pub atmosphere.

If a sweet taste of India is what strikes your fancy, then the Veeraswamy, located at 97 Wardour Street, is a great place to slake your hunger. Veeraswamy is more than a fine restaurant, it is almost an institution in London. Their prawn curry is especially to die for.

For an interesting take on American regional cuisine, head on down to the Texas Embassy Cantina, found on 1 Cockspur Street. Their mixture of Tex-Mex and Southwestern favorites is served up in a decor selected to resemble a border town on the Rio Grande.

For some of the finest Japanese cuisine in London, the Tokyo Diner, located at 2 Newport Place in Leicester Square is tough to beat. They offer a marvelously fresh selection of Japanese and pan-Asian fare in a relaxing and clean atmosphere.

Eating at the Tate Britain Restaurant, found in London's Millbank, offer double benefits. Not only do you get to sample some of the finest expressions of modern British cooking in a glorious Greek revival building, but you can also travel just upstairs to view one of the world's finest collections of art, tje Tate gallery, hosting a huge collection of British art dating from 1500 to the present.

The French House, found at 49 Dean Street, is a small quirky pub that serves Continental cuisine along with litres of cheap and robust French cider.
